Interested in regional revitalization, I left a major corporation to launch this school lodging project at a former elementary school. I’ll keep coming up with fun projects so more people can visit!!

History of Katasho

In 2017, this site was reborn as a hub for town planning and regional revitalization.
In addition to being an “elementary school where you can play and stay,”
we also host regional events and provide
space for the local community.

HISTORY

1906
The Katahama Branch of Sagara Jinjo Elementary School, the predecessor of Katahama Elementary, was established at the current location.
1955
Became independent as Sagara Town Katahama Elementary School. Total enrollment: 284 students.
1958
Total enrollment reached a record high of 326 students.
1985
Completion of the 3-story reinforced concrete building (current South Building).
1999
Completion of the new school building (current North Building).
2017
The school closed after merging with Makinohara City Sagara Elementary School.
With 37 students and 5 graduates, its 62-year history came to an end.
2018
Facility management by Makinoharabo Co., Ltd. began.
2020
Lodging services began.
Reborn as “Katasho: The Elementary School Where You Can Play and Stay.”

The ocean is great, of course, but the view of the Makinohara Great Tea Plantation is truly moving!
The ocean looks close; how many minutes does it take?
It’s just a 3-minute walk straight out of the school (Katahama Beach)!
Is there staff support within the school?
Our staff provides activities and meals! If you have any trouble, we will respond immediately!
Is Katasho a completely private facility?
Katasho is also used by local groups such as the Child-Rearing Support Center and the Silver Human Resources Center. At night, floors in each building are available for private rental. Only one group can stay per building.
Can I post the photos I take on social media?
